Try as I might

Well, y’all, it seems a girl just can’t win around here.

Our girl is a big fan of green smoothies. Something she only has in common with one parent. I’ll let you guess which one.

Anyway, she used to get them in the afternoon as a snack. But we’ve had a 4pm swim lesson for five weeks now, with a “no food or drink two hours prior to lesson time” rule. This has put quite the damper on snack time around these parts. Usually she gets tossed some sort of ready-to-go snack while I’m frantically trying to get supper prepared when we get home after swim.

That was quite the background story to just tell you that I decided to make Leyton a green smoothie for breakfast this morning.

So anyway, the dilemma with that was that I had to make it while she was still sleeping. As in, run the blender in the kitchen, directly across from her room.

I thought I was practically brilliant when I decided to take the blender into the office, behind closed doors, where I could effectively make our smoothie without jeopardizing those precious last few minutes of a sleeping baby.

So that’s what I did.

And it worked out really well.

Well, until Brandon got up later and joined us in the kitchen.

“You know how you were really smart and used the blender in the office this morning so you didn’t wake the baby?” He asked.

“Well, you plugged it in directly behind my head.”

You just can’t win ’em all, folks.
