He is Risen, indeed!

Despite much better intentions, our family ended up with, let’s say, a less than ideal Easter celebration.

At the end of the day, there was a lot of disappointment, some bitterness and general consent the day needed a do-over.

That evening, as the outdoor sunset service at our church began (that the morning’s adventures in hay making had forced us to attend rather than a traditional Easter morning service), I “saw the light,” if you will.

I was flanked by my handsome husband holding our beautiful baby girl, both in their Easter Sunday best, and my sweet sister-in-law representing Brandon’s good, loving family. We were sitting in the great Arizona springtime outdoors, enjoying the most perfect weather, and watching a colorful, desert sunset. Every one of those things He created for us. For me. Undeserving as we all are.

And the service was filled with some of my favorite praise tunes, worshipping our Risen Savior.

When we loaded back up in the car, with a crying, hungry baby, after a much less than perfect, quick Easter photo session with my new little family (i.e., another thing that did not meet my Easter expectations) at the end of the service, I shared my revelation with Brandon and his sister:

You know, today was His day, and whether or not any of us want to admit it, or argue to what degree, every single one of us made it at least a little about ourselves and our expectations. At the end of the day, if the only thing we all did today was go praise Him like we just did, and celebrate the fact that we don’t have to worry about a lost afternoon because we all get to spend eternity together, that’s really all that matters.”

And Brandon promptly told me to “Blog it.”

As imperfect as they may be, here are our Easter 2013 family photos:
