Grandma Mary knew better

by Katie on October 12, 2011

When we brought the new truck home, and showed it to Grandma Mary (Brandon’s grandma) for the very first time, her exact reaction was this, “Oooooooh, Katie! You better keep Brandon away from it, you better keep him away.”

Really. That was what she had to say about our new truck.

Because Brandon is fairly notorious for haphazardly backing into things, taking perfectly good trucks into the mountains to get scratched up by mesquite, and just flat-out being a little hard on the exterior of vehicles.

Well, I should have listened to her a little harder.

Because less than two hours after I got this pretty new back window,

I also got this,

when Brandon was trying to back the stock trailer around our yard for the third time that day.

I was out at the barn when it happened, and thought I heard a crash, but when he didn’t come get me, I assumed all was well.

All was far from well.

He ended up calling me out to his truck as he was pulling away.

When I got there, he just said, “I don’t have a lot of time right now, but I want you to know I’m sorry, and I”m going to fix it.”

What did you hit? I knew I heard something. What is it?”

“I’m just going to let you figure it out. You won’t miss it. Remember, I’m sorry, and I love you.”

I immediately walked over to my pretty new truck.

He was right. I didn’t miss it.

I sent him a text that simply read, “I want to cry.”

His reply? “Me too. I’ll fix it.”

That Grandma Mary sure did know what she was talking about. I think we all assumed he would actually be driving it when he messed it up though.
