That’s the best you could come up with?

For some reason a few weeks ago, I started talking about spiritual gifts with Brandon. I believe the conversation began while I was doing dishes, and continued after I hopped in the shower for a quick rinse before calling it a day.

So, basically, we were having a pretty serious discussion over the sound of running water, clanking dishes, a dozen bar soap drops and subsequent near-fallings and associated banging around that all go with me taking a shower (because, as Brandon says, nearly daily, my name should have been Grace).

He eventually asked what I thought his spiritual gifts were.

Since I was also having to concentrate on remaining upright in the slippery shower, I thought for a few minutes before responding, “Well, …you’re a really determined, hard worker, so maybe…”

And I was interrupted by him saying, “Really? You thought about it that long? And that’s the best you could come up with?”

While I was finishing the sentence with the conclusion I had drawn, “…Diligence and dependability.”

“Well,” I added, “if you had waited before interrupting me, you would have heard I said diligence and dependability.”

“Oh,” he said, “that’s better, I guess.”

Let’s just say I won’t be adding “patience” or “listening” to that list anytime soon.
