Someone check this thing

by Katie on February 10, 2011

Our Super Bowl Sunday was spent in the company of five other adults and eight children. Eight children five years and under, including two under ten months. I don’t know if the word “chaos” even begins to describe what was going on there.

Now, I have been around this type of thing before. I have been the person in charge of this type of situation before. Honestly, I thought nothing of it until a few days later when the whole “eight kids under six years” thing popped into my head.

Brandon, on the other hand, was a bit overwhelmed. You can’t really blame him; he had never been in any situation even halfway similar to this.

At some point during the evening, one of the babies was placed against a couch cushion to hang out. One by one, every adult left the couch and made his/her way into the kitchen for snacks.

Somehow, Brandon ended up being left alone on the couch with the infant.

None of us even noticed until five or ten minutes later when Brandon pipes up from the couch saying, “Um…guys? Hey, uh, I think, uh, someone should come check this thing out. We were doing okay over here, but now he’s making these noises and they sound kinda like choking to me.”

Instead of anyone running over to assist (the little guy had been fighting a cough all night), the rest of us pretty much lost ourselves in laughter over Brandon’s request for someone “to check this thing out”. Eventually, the baby was tended to by his mother, and all was well.

I’m pretty sure Brandon joined us in the kitchen though.
