A cotton pickin’ good day

by Katie on December 8, 2010

That’s exactly what today was. In every sense of the phrase.

We literally finished picking our cotton today.

Cotton pickin'

And figuratively, I couldn’t be more cotton pickin’ happy about it.

I think it even surpasses last December when our sunflower harvest meant I could finally cease my days of endless bird chasing through the fields.

This cotton proved to be my arch nemesis this summer, forcing me to spend much more time than I wanted walking the field in irrigation boots on 120 degree days. And I wish I was exaggerating.

So yes, today was treasured around here.

Now we can only hope for a cotton pickin’ good yield, right?

And just for fun, here’s Brandon “cutting the ends” after they had been picked to help the machines get around the field easier.

I should also mention this was taken about 47.2 seconds before a “Dust Cop” stopped him for a little chat. Because for some reason, he was surprised to be driving through a bunch of farm fields, right in the middle of cotton harvest time, and see a little dust blowing around all the equipment. Who would’ve guessed.
