Did y’all figger it out yet?

I probably shouldn’t be telling this story on my baby brother. I’ve exploited him quite a bit already. But I just can’t help it. Mostly because I want to remember it.

Brandon and I visited the family this past weekend, which turned out to be just a couple days after Morgan (the other brother) had extensive knee surgery and was confined to a wheelchair for the time being. In order o avoid the hassle of hauling him around Sunday morning, we decided to watch church on TV instead.

So, we all gathered ’round the screen for the service. At the end of the sermon, the preacher, who turned out to be quite the artist as well, began creating an image with chalk while a praise song played.

Some of us sang along, and we all watched as Jesus on the cross slowly appeared before us. He began with the crown of thorns, created His face, chest, and arms stretched wide.

About the time he reached the loin cloth, Mason turned around to Brandon, my dad and myself, and with big eyes, said, “Did y’all figger it out yet? ‘Cause I just did!”

…And when we could all breathe again, Dad just said, “Oh, God bless him.”
